The Volvo S90 belongs to the range of rear wheel drive cars and vehicles that were built by Volvo, the car manufacturer from Sweden. This vehicle was manufactured and built during the 1980s and the 1990s. Just like the range of vehicles that it belonged to, the Volvo S90 were crafted and created so as to tickle the interest and appeal of the American market. By doing such, Volvo then was able to further expand its growing company in the United States.

Going back to Volvo history, the Volvo S90 was actually first introduced as the Volvo 960. This vehicle was first launched in the autumn of 1990. The last two years that this vehicle was into production and manufactured, it was called as the Volvo S90 or as the Volvo V90. The production of this line of Volvo models was entirely halted come the year 1998.

It has been said that the Volvo S90, when the vehicle model had been called as such, only went through minor changes. These changes included an altering and modification as per its switches, levers and center console. There were also some additional features like additional tweeters and pillars that surely added and enhanced the passenger compartment. Because of these changes, the Volvo S90 later on sped through the race to the top and grabbed the top spot of Volvos product line up for the United States and North America.

The Volvo S90s that were marketed and sold in the United States came equipped with an electronically controlled Asian AW automatic gearbox. Aside from the 2006 Swedish Design Award given by the Swedish Advertisign Association and SVID, this vehicle has also received other awards like the Golden Spark Plug given by the Swedish Automobile Association last April 2003, the Best Concept Car given by design master Ross Lovegrove last March 2004, the best Design in Show given by the New York Daily News last April 2004, the Women of the Year award given by the Swedish magazine Damernas Varld last December 2004, the Woman of the Year award given by the motoring magazine Automotive News Europe last May 2005, the Andre Award given by the Swedish Patent and Registration Office last April 2005, the Golden Globe award given by the World Media Festival for the film made about the YCC last June 2005, and the Torsten and Wania Soderberg design award last December 2005.

Another great idea that Volvo has are adaptive headlights. The headlights monitor the cars speed and the steering wheel movements. While the car is driving fast, the headlights switch to a mode where you will be able to see in long distances ahead with longer light beams. And at lower speeds, the beam is shorter. It even adjusts during turns, widening as you go. This great technology is possible through the use of fiber-optic methods.

The best so far is the night vision. Most people dont see well at night and require glasses. It has been proven that red lights are easier to see in a dim environment. Utilizing that fact, Volvo makes another good grade in the safety department. Combined with the adaptive headlights, older drivers tend to feel more comfortable driving at night. Not only is this good for safety but it also moves the buyer metrics higher since people feel more comfortable driving and tend to buy at least one more new car in their lifetime. With Volvos infrared night vision, no one would have to worry about those winding dark roads.

Volvo safety has been a concept for its manufacturer since the beginning and it doesnt seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. Where as some manufacturers rely on gimmicks to sell cars, Volvo has built the reputation as the safest car around. For the fifth year in a row, the Volvo Cars of North America is out on a hunt. They are not looking for a particular place or spot to bury a new and uniquely themed vehicle like the Volvo XC90 Pirate Themed Search. This time around, they are on the search for a hometown hero which they would be awarding as part of the companys Volvo For Life Awards.

The Volvo For Life Awards has been done for five years already, with this year counting as the fifth. It is a national public service program and what it does is it actually recognizes and honors those hometown people who have become heroes in their own ways and scopes of work. Of course, the company is not just looking for anybody. They would like to honor a person who has become a hero through his or her efforts at making moves to improve the safety and quality of life in their community. Or these new set of heroes may have been working towards a better quality of the environment. If you know one, you can nominate him or her and celebrate this persons everyday heroism.

Volvo would be selecting the overall winner. There would only be one winner, of course, and he or she would be named Americas Greatest Hometown Hero. Not only would his or her efforts be given much recognition and praise. The winner would not just be given a set of Volvo P1800 parts or accessories. The hometown hero winner would be given one new Volvo car every three years for the entire duration of his life. All these just because of his or her efforts at trying to change the environment or his or her community to make it better.

According to the company, they continually recognize these hometown heroes because they do believe that such heroic contributions that individuals could do to the environment and the community are exemplary. In fact, these heroes also are great inspirations for many other people.

A full-size station wagon, the Volvo V70 of the Volvo Car Group is originally a development of the 850 station wagon and sedan series. A trivia for this car company is that it has a naming strategy that completely depends on the vehicles size and body style.
