Volvo 740: Style, Performance, and Luxury

Volvo vehicles and automobiles are known to have style and power that surpasses every other vehicle found on the streets. Aside from that, Volvo has also been quite affiliated with safety and safety has certainly been part of the manufacturers mindset when it comes to crafting and producing new vehicles to introduce to the market. 1998 was the year when Volvo, an automobile manufacturer of commercial vehicles, trucks and buses, was acquired by the Ford Motor Company to become one with its Premier Automotive Group. Although this was so, the original company of Volvo was decades earlier, in 1927, in Sweden.

volvoSafety cage and crumple zones concept was what had sparked Volvos reputation for safety and security, and all these had started back during the extravagant and colorful 60s. The safety cages would refer to the strong materials that were used where the vehicles passengers would also be seated. On the other hand, the crumpled zones then referred to that part which would absorb all of the impact that was brought along by collision and crashes. Safety innovations were added in to their vehicle models and the safety list included three-point seatbelts, padded dashboards, the Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS), and the BLIS system which is a sensor system that alerts the driver when a car enters in the vehicles blind spot. Because of this whole safety system that Volvo has introduced and incorporated in their cars and automobiles, Volvo has then started being recognized as the vehicle which aspires for greater safety.

One of the vehicles that Volvo has crafted and manufactured is the Volvo 740. It had a lifespan of approximately a decade which started from the year 1984 up until 1992. The Volvo 740 is actually powered by a range of different engines over the years such as the four-cylinder in-line OHC, 986 cc or 2,316 cc, six-cylinder in-line 2,383 cc Turbo Diesel.

The Volvo 740 SE sedan was introduced in the U.S. for the 1985 model year. It was then a less optioned version of the Volvo 760 model. It was a breath of fresh air for the Swedish auto manufacturer for it was actually then intended to be a midsize car that offered more style, performance, and luxury than the esteemed and honored 240 series cars. It was offered as a four-door sedan, and was known internally as the 744. It also was offered as a five-door wagon which was internally known as the 745. Production had stopped come 1992 although the vehicles engine, transmission, chassis, and other important details lived on in the Volvo 940, which was in essence a reskinned 740.

VolvoVolvo 140 Owning Up to Its Personal Space in Automobile History

In its own history, Volvo is a Swedish world leading manufacturer of commercial vehicles, buses, and construction equipment, drive systems for marine and industrial applications, aerospace components and service, and this group also provides complete solutions for financing and service. Volvo Cars, however, which is the manufacturer of automobiles that we know at present, has since been owned by the Ford Motor Company starting the year 1999.

The name Volvo is a Latin word that means I roll. This name surely fits well as a description of their products vehicles that the company crafts. However, originally, it is a name for a ball bearing that was being developed by the company which, at that time, provided funding to a small number of employees for them to be able to set up the car manufacturing business. Today, the Volvo Group has been manufacturing vehicles in twenty five countries with its sales in more than 185 markets around the globe.

Some of the reasons why Volvo had took the initiative to sell the automobile manufacturing was because of the increasing development costs for new car models, added up with the fact that at that time it was a relatively small producer of such. Its strategy was then to grow as a truck manufacturer where it had a stronger market position. Now, Volvo the line of vehicles is included and part of the Ford Motor Companys line up.

The list of Volvo models could look seemingly endless with new models coming up out in the market regularly. A part of the list includes the Volvo 140 which consists of the models Volvo 142, which is a two door vehicle, the Volvo 144, which has four doors, and the Volvo 145, which is an estate wagon. This model was first introduced in 1967. The Volvo 140 series was the start of using a three number system for their crafts. It is some sort of acronym for the first number indicates the series, the second number displays the number of series, and the third number shows the number of doors.

The very first Volvo to feature the classic boxy look is the Volvo 140. This provided a lot of interior space, as compared to the Volvo Amazon. It also bore a radical new design with the only similar features to the Amazon being the split grill and some parts of the interior. The basic shape of the Volvo 140 lived into the 1990s with the 200 series. It used the same 85 hp engine, and then later was changed to the B20 engine. A 115 hp engine was also made available. Going back to 1966, the Volvo 140 had been awarded and had been named as the Car of the Year for that year by the Swedish magazine Teknikens Varld.

Volvo, Out To Conquer Indian Auto Market

The Volvo Car Corporation is out to expand their market. And they have decided on introducing and bringing their cars to India. They would be having the start of sales of their vehicles come the last quarter of this year.

VolvoVolvo Cars India would be having its main office based in Delhi. Of course, they would do need to introduce their products and vehicles in the market first and Volvo has decided to bring out the luxury car Volvo S80 and the crossover sport utility vehicle Volvo XC90 first in the market. As the vehicles get product recall, the company is planning on bringing more cars to the Indian automobile market.

President and chief executive officer of Volvo Cars is Fredrik Arp and he says, It is an important step for Volvo Cars to establish a presence on this market at a time when India is showing considerable growth in the passenger car market. Moreover, we believe that the timing is right in comparison with our closest competitors.

With India having a good growth in its economy plus a low rate of inflation, the company believes that it would indeed be a good starting ground for bringing Volvo cars to the Indian market. Volvo is expecting to see an increase in their total sales as the years go on.

Fredrik Arp even continues by saying, All these models represent modern Scandinavian elegance and we are convinced they will be highly successful on the Indian market too. Our objective is to build the already strong Volvo brand in India with quality prestige cars from Volvo.

After the launch of the two mentioned Volvo vehicles in the market, the company would also be targeting on bringing in new vehicles to the Indian market from 2006 up until 2009. The plans are to bring new models like the Volvo C70 convertible, Volvo C30 compact car.
